Joseph and Esther

(Lancaster PA: 8-9 April 2010) Two musicals, two plays, two biblical names, but only one biblical story. While in Lancaster PA we were told we had to visit the Sight and Sound Theater. This is a huge venue that puts on large scale spectacular productions to tell Bible stories and present the gospel. We were privileged to see a show that just opened in March on the life of Joseph. The venue itself is spectacular and the show did not disappoint. They bring live animals onto the stage and many of the scenes actually bring the action into the isles of the auditorium. Did you know Joseph flew? (When he had his big dream they had him fly to the top of the wheat stalk. That's how your Bible tells the story, right?) The story of dreams and forgiveness with a touch of added romance were the formula for a special experience we will not soon forget. We're already putting Branson, MO on our itinerary so we can see their production of Noah. Can you imagine all those animals on stage?
The next night we had an equally enjoyable (different) musical adventure. (Sorry, no pictures for this). We went to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater and besides a nice buffet meal, enjoyed a wonderful production of Meet Me In St Louis. Joy loves musicals and can sing a line or two from many like, Oklahoma!, Hello Dolly, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, The Sound of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and others. At one time or other she made all of us watch the movie versions of these. This story is about a family living in St Louis in the time leading up to the 1904 St Louis World's Fair. Esther is the role made famous by Judy Garland in the MGM film. For several days Joy was singing not only the Meet Me in St Louis title song, but The Trolley Song and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. It was a fun two days of seeing live musicals. We felt very cultured! But it wore off quickly.
